Credit Scores Can affect your ability to land a job?

November 18 , 2009

I had an interesting meeting today with a credit repair specialist. No, fortunately this was not for me personally, but for the sake of helping clients. Anyway, beyond the way to repair credit so you can buy things, the interesting tidbit was that many companies are now pulling up the credit histories of potential employees and a low score can be enough for a company not to hire you! Especially if it's unpaid debts.

FICO score

Now this may sound self serving from someone who repairs people's credit, but he claims to have clients come to him exactly because they did not land a job given their credit. I know this individual and find him credible, plus I have heard similar stories from other people.

Sadly, I often run into people in San Carlos and Redwood City that are unemployed and are starting to feel the pinch financially. Paying bills is often pushed off for some as their savings begin to dwindle. However, keep in mind that the actions you take in delaying paying your bills may hinder your ability to land that job you seek. It's not fair, but apparently it is a reality. This applies even if you're just thinking about changing jobs.

Good luck out there and as my old boss use to say, "Everyone deserves a job. What that job is of course depends on your ability and the amount of effort you're willing to put into it!"
