The Stock market and local real estate prices tracking well together

It's amazing how prices for San Mateo County's single families homes have been tracking to the Dow Jones since 2003. The graph below shows both markets. The question becomes which is the leading indicator or do they switch off from time to time?
I think by looking at the charts, it looks as if the DJI leads the housing market which makes sense. If you're feeling like your portfolio is tanking, then you're more likely to be more conservative with a home offer.
